I am currently a Communication major, and with this major I would love to pursue a career in crisis journalism, or as it is commonly referred to, war-time journalism. I am also interested in a career in public relations as an in-house public relations practitioner. Writing has always been a passion of mine, and it has seemed to come naturally. I plan to do internships at multiple places and study abroad in the next four years. Below I have attached the schedule of classes I have for the Spring 2018 semester.
Research
In the Fall Semester of 2017, I enrolled in the course "Ethiopia: A Culture of Famine and Beauty." This course left a lasting impact on my world view and the privileges I take for granted. For our final project, we were required to write a 20 page creative non-fiction paper that takes place during the Great Famine of Ethiopia from 1982-1986. The story revolves around a fictional family in Wuchale, Ethiopia and details their struggles and obstacles they are forced to overcome in each of the three rain seasons. While the paper is fictional, everything other than the family's activities are heavily based in fact. I submitted this paper to the Southern Regional Honors Conference in Washington D.C. from April 4-7, and it was accepted as an oral presentation. Below I have attached this paper.
